Hi all,
When coming up with ideas for how we would distribute our film, we came up with several things. We took into account that our company would be a small, independent company like Warp. So inspiration has been taking from them as to how they distributed their films. Warp has developed several digital distribution and marketing plans, for films/documentaries like Le Donk - this included advertising on social media through interviews(media convergence), interviews and trailers too. Warp's ability to utilise cross media convergence and digital technology in their distribution is a tool we looked to try and replicate.
We created a social media page to reach out to our audience members, younger people, across the internet as stereotypically most young people own some form of social media account. We also conducted interviews with other production companies who were open to funding our project. This is included in an earlier post located here: Interview. It included a pitch scenario where we gave our thriller idea to the company - although is it not distribution the pitch was a step towards creating awareness to our audience. As the interview could be published.
As mentioned previously in other posts, our thriller opening depicts the victim to be a young woman - like in 'Scream' and 'Halloween'. We've used this formula of a female victim as successful horror/thriller movies in the past have used the same technique. It's part of something that works for thrillers and we thought 'why change it?'.
When actually considering where to distribute our thriller, I believe our thriller would be suitable for cinema release, as our thriller contains many links to successful cinema-released thrillers like Scream & Halloween etc. The target audience is aware of cinemas and often attend new releases at the cinema- The modern forms of marketing are also directed more towards the younger generation(our target audience), as social media sites are predominantly used by younger people. Adverts, videos and articles advertised on social media will more likely reach them. Which we have tried to take advantage of with our own social media page: https://www.facebook.com/Payback-Media-Studies-1518504151786889/?fref=ts. Furthermore, images from set, posters etc. again, are spread through the internet and social media therefore will attract a larger audience which we have also tried to make use of on our page. Especially our target audience considering the fact that they use social media and the internet etc. a lot more in today's technology driven world.
