Alex and I have prepared our one-page pitch and are ready to deliver it to the producers. We're pretty sure this is the finished product and suitable to be presented to the producers. More blog posts will follow concerning our research & planning phase of our main task.
One Page Pitch
Working title: PAYBACK
Tag Line: ‘Sticks
and stones break more than bones’ (however still work in progress)
Film Genre(s):
Crime Thriller
Approximate length of
time: 120 minutes
Target Audience: 15
– 34, fans of Crime-thrillers, such as Jack
Reacher and Taken.
‘What if’ premise: What
if a vulnerable boy that had experienced an eternity of cyber bullying decided to
stand up in a sadistic way, gaining vengeance on the girls that oppressed him.
The Story Synopsis:
(work in progress). A girl is found murdered at her home by a mysterious wanted
man in town only referred to as ‘The Lady Killer’. Recently promoted Detective
David Monroe is left to tackle the case on his own – who is this murderer? What
is his motive? Only time will tell.
Statement of Intent: We have decided to centre our film on the
themes of bullying, redemption, vengeance and revenge. The purpose of our film
is to ultimately convey the effects of bullying. This however extreme scale is
a modern way of ‘scaring’ people into considering the consequences.
Secondly, we decided on creating
this plot as a film rather than a TV series. This is because the pressure of a
metaphorical countdown would be lost in a TV series as this would span over a
longer period of time than a film. For example, a TV series could be 20 hours
whereas a film could be merely 2 hours.
Visual Realisation: Starts
out with a slow pace, however gradually speeds up later on in the film. The
opening to the film is quite warm and overall appears normalised. However, soon
there is a descent into darkness, showing a juxtaposition.
Audience Appeal: I
believe that our target audience will enjoy the final piece as it conveys many
similarities in plot to other films. Jack
Reacher, for example, a crime-thriller, consists of a murder that sparks an
overall investigation on a larger scale. Our plot similarly unravels as the
Detective realises the purpose behind these tragic acts. Secondly, like Taken, there is a metaphorical clock
counting down as the detective is trying to catch the murderer before more
people die.
Ending: This is
just an idea that we had if the film was actually made in full rather than just
an opening sequence.
After a dramatic end, such as the death of The Lady Killer
or even their victory, there is a rapid reverse to the beginning of the film
where we see the victim from the opening sequence is sat alive and well at her
computer. She is about to send a mean comment but then suddenly comes to a form
of realisation. She deletes the message and a black screen wipes across the
screen, following the cursor deleting letters. The credits start.
